Half a Billion Radiology Reports

A Milestone in Incidental Findings Management

From a single patient story to saving lives and giving people more tomorrows

It started with Ben, a patient in his 30s whose lung cancer was missed on an incidental finding. When Dr. Aki diagnosed him in 2014, it sparked the mission that defines Eon today: saving lives and giving people more tomorrows.

Today, Eon has analyzed more than half a billion radiology reports, representing the most extensive real-world experience in incidental findings management. This milestone is more than a number. It reflects our mission coming to life by ensuring patients get timely follow-up and the chance at better outcomes.

Since 2021, we have identified more than 20 million abnormalities, and since our founding, we have helped nearly 2 million patients receive the follow-up care they need. That is what we are really celebrating.

Our Journey in Milestones

From our earliest focus on lung incidentals and screening to an enterprise solution that manages incidental findings across multiple organ systems, the path from Ben’s missed diagnosis to half a billion reports analyzed shows how Eon has scaled impact from one patient to entire communities served by health systems nationwide.

Beyond the Milestone: A Comprehensive Approach to Care

This half-billion milestone reflects something we never imagined in 2014. It represents comprehensive intelligence that spans the full spectrum of incidental findings.

Incidental findings appear in approximately 40 percent of imaging studies, yet 70 percent of patients never receive systematic follow-up. Eon was created to change that.

Eon’s condition-specific AI identifies and extracts incidental findings that are documented in radiology reports across lung, pancreas, breast, thyroid, kidney, liver, and cardiovascular conditions. Ensuring patients actually receive timely follow-up is the bigger challenge, and this is where Eon brings automation, continuous monitoring, and navigator support to keep patients on track. Unlike other approaches that overwhelm teams with manual work, Eon eases the resource burden, shortens time to treatment, and ensures patients receive the care they need when they need it.

Navigation Services Extend Internal Capacity

But we recognized that technology alone is not enough. The reality is that even the most dedicated navigation teams struggle with the volume of patients needing follow-up care, because managing incidental findings is only one of many critical tasks they face each day. In November 2020, we launched Eon Navigation Services so a team of expert care navigators could augment in-house staff, extending capacity without adding headcount and ensuring all patients receive the timely follow-up they need.

Real Impact for Health Systems

The journey from Ben’s missed diagnosis to today’s milestone tells a story of real clinical outcomes.

  • At one health system, a nine-fold increase in early-stage cancer diagnoses
  • At another, 78 percent of lung cancers are now caught at Stage I or II compared to state averages of just 25 percent
  • Some top-performing clients have achieved something remarkable: zero Stage IV diagnoses

These are not just statistics. They represent families who no longer hear “we should have caught this sooner.”

Operational and financial results with Eon are equally meaningful.

  • On average, 75 percent of patients return for in-network follow-up care
  • Majority of clients report a return on investment within the first year, with some in as little as months
  • Clients generate millions in downstream charges and contribution margin from curative intent procedures and guideline-driven follow-up, creating sustainable programs that fund themselves

The Milestone That Matters Most

Reaching half a billion radiology reports analyzed fills us with pride. What moves us most is knowing that behind every number is a person, someone’s Ben, who now has a chance at more tomorrows. That is what defines Eon’s mission of saving lives and giving people more tomorrows.
